Imagine yourself carrying anywhere from 80 (minimum) to whatever your personal limits of pounds on your back. It is hot -- as much as 130 Farenheit. Begin walking. Make sure you remain vigilant in surveying your surroundings as you continue to walk, for death can come from any direction. It could come for you -- or worse, your friends who march beside you. You're already well acquainted with the ghosts, because they are already with you from past months.
Keep walking, and keep watching. It's a really busy day, war-wise, so it's just too risky for helicopters to arrive with more ammunition -- or water, or rations. The enemy is shockingly unmoved by your logistical problems, so continue to maintain your vigilance. Since it is such a busy day, your buddies joke about wearing your helmet, which no one can possibly do, because it's made of metal and it's 130 out.
Man, a shower would feel good right about now, but you haven't had one of those in months. Your two uniforms are uniformly filthy, and, since they weren't manufactured to withstand months of sweat and blood and filth in a climate with as much as 100% humidity, are really more like rags. What they no longer cover the sun blisters.
Keep walking. Here's some water to cross -- time to see who wins the "most leeches" contest. There's a possibility you may get some sleep tonight -- maybe even your full two hours -- but again, maybe you won't.
Live like this in your thirst and your heat and your filth for 13 months, but keep moving, because death is watching for you around every corner.
Manage to live out your enlistment and come HOME. Hooray! No -- complete strangers will spit on you and call you a baby killer. Live with your rage for 50 or 60 years.
Thank a Vietnam veteran today. They learned more about life and death by 17 or 18 than most of us ever will -- and they did it so we wouldn't have to, because old men in air-conditioned offices decided that it was their obligation.
Let us never, ever, repeat these sins with future veterans. God bless the fallen.
Remembering....
Thank a Soldier
To all our Service men and women currently enlisted, to those who are retired, and for those who gave their lives for ours, I THANK YOU for everything you have sacrificed to serve our country. How can I possibly express my gratitude to you for giving a part of your life to allow me to keep my freedom and sense of security and safety in a world that is obviously so chaotic? They're are no words in the dictionary to accurately express how amazing you are. Brave is not nearly enough, courageous just doesn't do it, gallant, heroic and even patriotic are not enough to describe your character on their own. But, all of those words together describe you and in my book define you as a Hero. My heartfelt thanks and gratitude could never be enough to replace the time you have spent away from your family, enough to compensate you for the experiences you have endured, nor enough to make up for the physical and emotional strain caused by your service., THANK YOU for everything you have sacrificed to serve our country. Every day there are people like you who put their lives on the line serving and protecting our freedoms., for bravely doing what you're called to do so we can safely do what we're free to do. You have defended freedom and peace with courage and honor. Thank you for your sacrifices, for your valor, for the things you carry, for protecting us, and for defending our rights , for your courage, strength and dedication to keeping us safe. I come from a family with many members who have served our country's military, including my Dad 2 of my brothers, my Papa and my nephew Jackson who is currently serving in the Marines. I know that your job requires a lot of sacrifice, a lot of hard work, and dedication. None of that comes easy. It all requires a choice and effort. You have chosen to fight against the enemy, to support those around you, and to strengthen our country's freedom. No one else can or will ever know exactly what you have endured or what you will face in your future. It is your story. You are like a single thread woven in the flag of freedom. You are important. You matter. You are appreciated. Thank you for choosing to serve. My prayers and good wishes for you, your brothers and sisters in arms, and your families. Thank you all for your patriotism, your sacrifices, and your selflessness. Today the nation honors you with gratitude, May God wrap his arms around you and protect you from harm. May he bless your loved ones with peace as they wait your return. That he keeps you safe and equips you both mentally and physically and comfort you when you need Him most until your safe return home.
The Storm
The Devil whispered in my ear, "You're not strong enough to withstand the storm". Today I whispered in the Devil's ear, "I am a child of God, a man of faith and a Warrior of Christ .......I am the storm". Author unknown

:CARAMEL:!!!
Two older gentlemen, Fred and Sam, went to see a movie.
Merely minutes into the movie, Sam heard Fred rustling around.
It appeared that he was reaching under all of the seats.
“What on earth are you doing, Fred?” asked Sam.
Fred indignantly responded,
“I had a caramel in my mouth and it dropped out.
I’m trying to find it!” Annoyed, Sam told him not to worry about it —
they could get him another caramel later since that one was ruined by now.
“But I’ve got to,” said Fred, exasperated. “My teeth are in it!”
IT IS OFFICIAL
I do not know exactly when yet, but it will prob be after July. They are going to need to replace my heart valve, and I am really scared. They tell me this problem came from the rheumatic fever I had when I was in 4th grade. The doctor is thinking I should get a mechanical valve. The upside, I will most likely never need it replaced again, and no poor animal has to die to make it. The downside, a mechanical valve, means I will be on warfarin the rest of my life. I was kinda hoping to be able to change to a diff blood thinner after the tee. Guess that goes out the window. If I had a bio one put in, I would not need the blood thinner, but that would only last 10 or 15 years. I really do not think i want to do this again at 75 or 80.
SPRING BLUES
Spring time is a great time, everything is more colorful and people are getting outdoors and trying new things and renewing interests in old hobbies. It is fun for them, and a great thing to do in the warm weather, but I am in such a blue emotional state I can not enjoy it, and it seems like I am developing some resentment for the spring activities that are taking the company of people I enjoyed winter away from me. I would never try to stop anyone from enjoying THEIR lives, we only get one and everyone should enjoy it while they can, but understanding that does not make me feel less lonely when everyone is off doing fun spring things, and all I can do is set around and worry about what the doctors are going to do to my heart. There is a problem with at least one value, and it will be at least July before they have all the info they need to figure it out. I got a serious case of spring blues.( NOT THAT ANYONE REALLY CARES ????.

A man asked his wife, "What would do if I told you I won the lottery"? She answered, "I'd take half and leave you". He said "I won $12 here's your $6 and keep in touch".
